Overview:
We are seeking a Research Associate who will focus on conducting research in the field of directed energy deposition / hybrid manufacturing (DED & Machining). This position resides in the Manufacturing Systems design group in the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Generate 5-axis CAM toolpaths for hybrid (Additive & Machining) manufacturing systems
- Operate advanced manufacturing systems (CNC based)
- Conduct maintenance and support hardware/software development of the various systems
- Assisst in fundamental research in the field of hybrid manufacturing

Basic Qualifications:
- A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 1 years of experience in directed energy deposition technology
- A minimum of 1 years of experience in Subtractive (machining) manufacturing
- A minimum of 1 years of experience with computer aided manufacturing software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
