Overview:

We are seeking an Information Management and Protection Specialist who will support the FUSION and FISSION ENERGY and SCIENCE DIRECTORATE at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).   This position will coordinate FFESD Operations activities related to Information Protection and Security, Information Management, Cyber Security, and Operational Communications.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:  

 

  • Serve as the FFESD point of contact for Cyber Security, Information Security, and Document and Records Management through proactive engagement with staff across the directorate. 

  • Serve as the Division Cyber Security Officer for FFESD and its divisions.  

  • Assist the organization management in implementing the ORNL Cyber Security Program, self-assessments, and training. 

  • Serve as the designated division point of contact for information from the Chief Information Officer (CIO) on computer security-related issues and resources with FFESD staff and division DCSOs. 

  • Assist the organization's computer users, application owners, system owners, and facility managers in identifying and addressing computer security concerns. 

  • Advise users and system administrators of current vulnerabilities and viruses, security patches, and virus protection software,  

  • Assist users and system administrators in cyber security tasks such as clearing computers and related media of virus contamination and clearing or sanitizing equipment before being excessed or transferred. 

  • Ensure that risk assessments, sensitivity determinations, and protection plans are done and documented for all organizational systems requiring them (e.g., security plans, etc.). 

  • Attend Open Cyber Meetings Monthly. 

  • Report security-related incidents and details to the CIO, organization management, and Level One organizations as appropriate. 

  • Develop and maintain FFESD document and records management policies and procedures. Coordinate its delivery to FFESD staff. 

  • Coordinate and provide FFESD with local expertise in the area of document control and records management.  Provide oversight of FFESD document and record assets and coordinate with divisions. 

  • Periodically evaluate the document and records management program against requirement documents and update the program as appropriate.  Complete and/or assign and track completion of required assessments. 

  • Assist in the development of directorate-level operational procedures and guidance documents. Provide guidance and interface between divisions on document and records management topics and requirements. 

  • Maintain internal systems utilized for communicating safety, security, and operational information; Support the creation and maintenance of operational documents including procedures, forms, plans, and program description documents. Ensure procedures are technically adequate and written to a level of detail consistent with the qualifications and training of the expected users. 

  • Develop and maintain FFESD Information Security Procedure and ensure it complies with ORNL policies and procedures. Coordinate its delivery to FFESD staff. 

  • Coordinate FFESD information security assets to implement ORNL information protection requirements and FFESD needs. 

  • Assist in the management of issues and off-normal events including participation in investigations, causal analysis, and corrective action development and implementation. 

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs. 

  

Basic Qualifications:  

 

  • A BS degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an MS degree and 1+ year of relevant experience.  Degree area should be in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math or related IT discipline. 
  • Experience with procedure writing/management, technical writing/editing, records management, information management and supporting IT system 

 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  • Familiarity with ORNL Systems and Processes 

  • Strong organizational skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people having a wide range of technical and scientific backgrounds. 

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs. 

  • Existing Q or L clearance preferred, but not required. 

 

 

Special Requirement: 

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
