Purpose:

 

The Prototype Manufacturing Group within the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) seeks applications for a Manufacturing Logistics Coordinator position with emphasis in the areas of mechanical fabrication, assembly, and inspection processes supporting multiple enrichment technology programs. The ESED at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a leader in research, development, and deployment of technology for the production and purification of radioisotopes, enhancement of nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards, reduction of threats to nuclear material at risk, and expansion of the national capabilities in radiation detection and nuclear forensics.

 

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

 

The selected candidate will work with technicians, process engineers, quality control engineers, quality assurance staff, and project managers to implement plans, procedures, and systems supporting the Prototype Manufacturing Group mission. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of a broad range of manufacturing processes. This positions responsibility will include:

  • Developing detailed schedules, work orders, manufacturing plans, quality & inspection plans, and inventory control of hardware
  • Act as Technical Project Officer (TPO) to oversee all technical aspects of subcontracts for related component quality
  • Coordinate response to vendor non-conformances or systematic failures so they can proactively address and resolve at the appropriate level
  • Writes specifications and procedures to support hardware inspection and testing or equipment installation and testing
  • Proposes corrective actions to improve compliance with quality specifications
  • Maintains records of results and prepares reports
  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation and application of contracts, technical specifications, regulations, and procedures
  • Tracking progress on projects, and scheduling/coordinating support from various programs and disciplines involved in project execution to ensure specific programmatic goals are met
  • Assisting with the preparation of strategic plans, presentations, and technical documents and delivery of presentations as requested to internal or external audiences
  • Working with multiple functional and operational organizations to solve disposition-related problems involving capability, capacity, safety, and security.
  • This position will interface with support groups and customers to include production departments, engineering groups, system health managers, planning and execution assets to support the development of an integrated schedule and manage the schedule on a daily basis

 

Qualifications:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of related manufacturing experience
  • or a B.S. in another Engineering or Science/Technology field and a minimum of 7 years related manufacturing experience
  • Demonstration of manufacturing experience in an R&D and/or a production environment
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS or other 3D modeling and design software packages
  • Proven communication skills
  • A customer service focus and the ability to work within changing situations to meet short deadlines is required. Requires demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in investigation/analysis of events is desired as well as a broad knowledge of ORNL requirements and processes related to ES&H, Production, Quality Assurance, procurement/contracts, construction/maintenance, and Security.
  • Experience in Work Control is required. Strong grasp of issues related to performing maintenance and operations work in production areas to strengthen the interface between Maintenance and Operations.
  • Candidate must be motivated and able to perform work independently.

 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Active DOE Q clearance
  • Specifically, machining and fabrication shop experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with supply chain management
  • Experience with creating and maintaining manufacturing processes
  • Experience in a Research & Development and/or testing environment
