The Information Technology Services Division in the Business Services Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is currently hiring for an Office 365/Azure/Microsoft Cloud Administrator. You will be part of a five-person team which leads all aspects of Microsoft 365 Administration architecture and provides day-to-day administration and support for Microsoft 365.  

The Microsoft 365 Administrator/Exchange Administrator is a full-time position, currently working remotely. Prospective candidates who are authorized to work in the US are encouraged to apply.  


Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily to meet the qualifications required to perform this job successfully. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • System Administrator support relating to technical issues involving Microsoft's core business applications and operating systems. 
  • Configuration, Troubleshooting and support of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business, Intune, and Azure Active Directory. 
  • Document system configurations and build standards for client environments 
  • Communication with clients as required: keeping them informed of project progress, impending changes, and agreed upon outages. 
  • Maintain the production, by running a software and hardware diagnostic regularly in a stipulated time period. 
  • Keep a check on the software versions which are installed in the operating systems. 
  • Responsible for providing support to any queries which arise. 
  • Monitor each part of the operating system like checking the disk space at regular intervals, checking the software versions. 
  • Run the diagnostics on the services which are essential for a server to run. 
  • Manage file sharing permissions to monitor mailbox quotas/space and to check where the email has stuck and made sure that the email reaches its destination. 
  • Making sure that the incidents get resolved with the SLAs and ensure that the system goes through a scheduled patching process. 
  • Research, evaluate and recommend the selection of M365 related tools and emerging technologies for clients. 
  • Interfacing with end-users for the purpose of designing and implementing solutions and design recommendations. 
  • Translating business requirements into functional/technical specifications. 
  • Responsible for increasing the probability of system success, reduce risk and reduce total life-cycle cost. 
  • Responsible for creating alternative designs to satisfy performance and cost criteria for customers. 
  • Assists engineers with complex technical tasks. 
  • Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training as required. 
  • Lead and develop best practices for larger Cloud and Systems Engineering teams. 
  • Identifies and corrects faults and provides resolution of complex problem tickets escalated from help desk. 
  • Supervising and checking the status of projects and work assignments. 
  • Document designs and scope projects in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.

  • Demonstrate professional attitude with client over the phone, on-site and through emails to resolve all client requests/questions. 


Qualifications Required: 


A degree in Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 5 years of experience consulting or industry experience designing, deploying, and migrating Microsoft 365 email, compliance, data, and security technologies including some of the following: 

  • Previous experience providing solution design and implementation 
  • Knowledge in Active Directory and Azure Active Directory 
  • Experience in multiple types of Exchange Migrations (Hybrid, O365 Tenant to Tenant, Hosted to Cloud) 
  • Experience in Microsoft Conditional Access, Information Protection, Information Governance, and Insider Risk Management 
  • Experience in configuration, troubleshooting and support of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business, and Intune 
  • Microsoft GCC experience 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals within a busy workspace. 
  • Interest in Cloud Engineering and its impact on greater business practices. 
  • Skilled at working in tandem with a team of engineers, or alone as required 
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects 
  • In-depth analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies 
  • Experience working outside of IT, consulting, developing, and supporting of enterprise applications 
  • Familiarity with ITIL 
  • Experience with PowerShell 
  • The ability to obtain or maintain a Department of Energy security clearance
  • Self-starter that can perform at a high level with minimal supervision
