Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. The Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND) at ORNL seeks a Mission Support Coordinator to help manage the complex set of mission-related commitments and deliverables. The position reports directly to the Project Planning and Logistics Group Leader in the Nuclear and Radiological Security Section (NRS) of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND). This is an opportunity to learn about the unique needs and considerations of successful International Nuclear and Radiological Security projects through direct interaction with Subject Matter Experts, Sponsors, International Partners and other ORNL departments and colleagues.
This position performs a wide range of technical and programmatic activities in all facets of nonproliferation project planning, support and management. Work is often across a range of sponsors within the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA); other sponsors may include the Department of State (DOS), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the successful implementation of international nonproliferation and security initiatives through initative and the ability to quickly pivot as circumstances demand. An agile mindset is a must.
- Engage with partners in other countries including some at the dignitary level.
- Coordinate extensively with other ORNL departments, other DOE laboratory colleagues, and other subject matter experts to execute project work.
- Contribute to the design, delivery and implementation of a wide variety of virtual and in-person engagements, including training, field and table-top exercises, brainstorming sessions, and presentations of project work.
- Enagage in mentoring relationships and training to develop subject matter expertise.
- Track schedule and costs for project activities. Develop tools that improve management of the unique considerations around nuclear and radiological security projects.
- Analyze data and information to assess the need for, progress of, or outcome of project work.
- Contribute to management process documents and reports.
- Travel as needed to support domestic and international engagements.
- Coordinate program/project lessons learned processes and procedures, process improvements, and develop plans for resolution.
- Act as Technical Project Officer (TPO) on contracts.
- Provide logistics support for international engagements.
- Maintain compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.

Basic Qualifications:
- Candidates who have an ability to bridge business and management needs with technical engagement and research requirements in the international community.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical, business or operations discipline with 3-5 years of experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Desire to grow in career and exhibit leadership potential.
- Excellent verbal communication skills are required to interact with colleagues, sponsors and vendor personnel; this includes a commitment to respectful and inclusive language.
- Experience in managing multiple activities simultaneously is required. Intense attention to detail is a must.
- Initiative, accountability and responsiveness are required. This job requires an above average ability to prioritize, be self-motivated, meet milestones and remain accountable, regardless of location.
- Excellent written communication skills are required. This job will regularly require the preparation of reports and presentations. Some delivery of presentations may also be required.
- Contribute to internal procedures and other standard operating procedures.
- A high level of proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams is required. Experience with SharePoint and SmartSheets is desirable.
- A DOE Q clearance (or the ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which requires at a minimum U.S. Citizenship or status as an LPR [Lawful Permanent Resident]).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a DOE National Laboratory or research and development environment.
- Experience with ORNL-specific systems and tools including SAP, ORNL Buy, PowerBI, RESolution, and SPPS

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. In addition, due the SCI, you may be also be subject to random polygraph testing.
