Overview:
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a Nuclear Quality Representative (NQR) for the Accelerator and Reactors Group of the Quality Assurance Division (QAD) which is part of the ESH&Q Directorate. The NQR works with internal and external customers and other quality professionals to provide quality assurance support for the development of quality management systems, project/process improvements, strategic planning and performance metrics, and other quality-related initiatives to support nuclear operations. This position will support the Research Reactors Division (RRD) and focus on independent quality assurance support to ensure the safe operation of the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). The position encompasses a wide range of quality oversight, review, verification, and validation of systems and components.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide quality assurance support for safe and compliant reactor operations to established NQA-1 quality requirements and the implementation of a graded approach
- Plan & perform internal and supplier assessments and serve as Lead NQA-1 Auditor as needed (moderate travel will be required)
- Review actions associated with assessment findings and opportunities for improvement to ensure effective resolution and adequate closure evidence
- Identify and assist in the implementation of continuous improvement projects
- Evaluate fabrication and testing documentation associated with plant components and experiment fabrication
- Conduct independent reviews of new and revised drawings, procedures, work packages, and other documentation for incorporation of appropriate quality controls
- Track and process nonconformances
- Support event critiques and causal analyses
- Operate and communicate quality issues effectively with all levels of management
- Establish relationships and work effectively with external and internal customers including the Department of Energy and RRD Engineering
- Identify and understand customer needs and balance continuous improvement with immediate operations support
- Become a backup for other quality control activities, including inspections and commercial grade dedication

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS degree in science, engineering, related field or equivalent combination of training, certification, and job experience
- A minimum of eight years of quality assurance experience in a highly regulated environment, with at least 1 year at a nuclear facility (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Auditor or Assessor experience
- A working knowledge of recognized Nuclear Quality Standards such as NQA-1, AWS welding codes, ASME BPV and other recognized quality concepts
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings
- Experience with Continuous Improvement techniques such as Six Sigma
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis or other investigation methods
- Strong computer skills and ability to operate in a mostly electronic environment
- Must be able to qualify as radiological worker
- The incumbent must maintain certifications and qualifications as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or other formal quality certification
- Knowledge and experience in validating implementation of quality assurance programs in a nuclear facility
- Experience in requirements for components used for nuclear applications
- Experience with nuclear, radiological, and other industrial hazards
- Qualified Critique Facilitator and Root Cause Analyst
- A demonstrated track record of investigation, analysis, and problem-solving
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to quickly change from one task to a drastically different task
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills; customer service experience; and the ability to interpret, communicate, and implement complex instructions
Special Requirements:
- Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
- Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
