Overview:

The Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division (NNFD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Task Lead for operations and isotope production missions at building 7920.  We are seeking candidates that possess an enthusiastic and positive work ethic, with exceptional teamwork skills.  You will need to also have the ability to handle potentially stressful situations and adjust to changing priorities.

The primary responsibility of the Task Lead is to ensure that all research and operations work is completed in a safe and compliant manner to meet established program goals within time and resource restrictions.  This is accomplished by assisting the 7920 Operations Supervisor and ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with applicable NNFD division work control, change control, procurement, fabrication, and testing requirements.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists 7920 Operations Supervisor in scheduling and prioritization of facility research projects to support mission goals.
  • Obtain and maintain qualification as a REDC Building 7920 Operations Supervisor in accordance with DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Qualification, and Training Requirements for DOE Facilities.
  • Obtain and maintain qualification as a NNFD Task Leader
  • Develop work packages for hot cell operation related activities in accordance with NNFD-004, Work Control.
  • Assist in the development, review, and V&V of Building 7920 hot cell operations & facility procedures in support of the mission goals of the facility.
  • Serves as a backup Building 7920 Operations Supervisor/Shift Supervisor as needed.
  • Serve as or assist the test lead on the various Building 7920 TSR surveillance functional tests.
  • Coordinate hoisting, rigging, and work control for shipping cask and shielded container handling and use.
  • Assist in preparing and/or reviewing detailed work instructions, shift instructions, and/or operations procedures.
  • Assists in identifying potential problems, recognizing unexpected results, and troubleshooting some of the more complex operational problems.
  • Uses tele-manipulators and specialized hot cell processing equipment.
  • Keeps work areas in a safe, clear, and orderly condition.
  • Ensures compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of facility and hot cell equipment status.
  • Assists in the development of Job Hazard Evaluations (JHEs) for hot cell operation activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • AS Degree in a technical field with a minimum 7 years of experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related technical field may be considered instead of an AS degree
  • At least three years of experience is required in nuclear operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in accordance with ES&H standards and procedures
  • Ability to lead and perform tasks requiring extensive manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •   Ability to work as an active and contributing team member
  •   Ability to manage time and work independently with minimum oversight, and accomplish multiple tasks in a complex environment with attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Excellent organizational skills


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an "L" clearance; however, all qualified applicants will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. 
  • This position requires Rad Worker II training as well as respirator qualification.  Candidate must be medically qualified for Rad Worker and respirator.
  • This position is a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing and undergoing testing without advance notification. The occupant of this position will also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report and drug related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test results to the company.
