Purpose

The Biosciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory invites qualified persons to apply for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Molecular Ecology and Genetics of Ectomycorrhizal Fungi. 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities

You will join a team of scientific and technical staff actively working to characterize the population genetics, biology and genomics of ectomycorrhizal fungal symbionts of Populus trichocarpa. Your research projects should focus on characterizing the genetics of species variation of ECM populations in the Pacific Northwest of the United States using genotype-by-sequencing approaches in order to map variation in functional traits across their populations and genomes. Activities would include DNA sample preparation and quantification, sequencing, growth assays, greenhouse experiments, data analysis and preparation of journal publications describing the results.

 

Basic Requirements

  • Ph.D. within the last five years in microbiology, molecular biology, ecology or related fields. 

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of the biology, cultivation and study of ectomycorrhizal fungi
  • Skill in the computational analyses of genetic data using RADseq or other GBS methods 
  • Relevant publication record
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

 

Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.  Applicants must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.

 

Appointments will initially be for 24 months with a possibility of an extension of up to 12 months. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
