The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks postdoctoral researchers experienced in all areas research related to data analytics, including: machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, inverse problems, and tomography.   We are specifically interested in research focused on the development of new tools and methods that can be used to analyze large and complex scientific data using novel computer architectures such as high performance, neuromorphic, and quantum computing.

While centered in the Computational Data Analytics Group, core capabilities in data analytics span multiple groups in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at ORNL, including the Computational and Applied Math Group and the Scientific Data Group.

As a postdoctoral research associate, you will have the opportunity to help solve some of the most challenging problems this country faces. You will perform ground breaking research on a wide range of significant problems with the fastest computing platforms in the world. This position requires novel thinking, teamwork, and discovery in finding new approaches for analyzing massive and complex data, collaborating with worldwide experts, and publishing ground breaking results.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Perform basic and applied research in the analysis of processing large and complex scientific data.
  • Collaborate with top researchers in the field.
  • Publish research results in top conferences and journal.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or closely related field.
  • A proven publication track record.
  • Relevant research experience in machine learning or artificial intelligence.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Outstanding publication track record.
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of scientists, engineers, and program managers.
  • Strong experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks.
  • Experience with high performance computing and novel computing architectures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written).


Additional Information:

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be for up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and the availability of funding.
