Overview:
The Facilities Management Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Process Engineer. Process Engineers provide a quality coordination to support continuous improvement of all aspects of facility operations, including construction services, maintenance, and research. The Process Engineer will drive efficiency, standardization, stability, and simplification of processes
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Developing format and conducting Activity Reviews.
- Organizing (scheduling) and tracking progress of Activity Reviews.
- Supporting customer feedback process and translating results into potential improvement opportunities.
- Driving overall process rigor and delivering significant simplification results.
- Leading continuous improvement and quality assurance projects.
- Developing procedures/process integration documents to document integral program processes, obtain approval, and publish documents.
- Update the Strategic Plans for Complex Facilities as requested by the Complex Manager.
- Provide support to the Facility Complexes by producing annual Work Plans, Process Integration Documents, Procedures, Maintenance Logs, etc.
- Assist in the development of technical training plans for craft and technical staff based on job roles and responsibilities.
- Develop estimates, schedules, and planning documents for customer programs within the facility footprint.
- Analyzes performance metrics to make recommendations for upgrades to systems and infrastructure.
- Updates system descriptions and maintains configuration management documents.
- Assists in maintaining O&M data and updating system documentation to reflect changes to the systems.
- Ability to work and communicate (written and oral) effectively with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians.

Basic Qualifications:
- An accredited B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- A minimum of five years of experience in facility systems, operations, and maintenance
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from DOE. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an on-going random drug testing program
- Work will involve various physical requirements and as such a post offer, pre-hire physical will be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in ORNL Business systems PALS and SAP.
- The ability to understand and manage technical issues related to facility infrastructure
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Candidates should have strong computer skills, good interpersonal abilities, and good communication skills
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
