The National Security Sciences, Systems Management (SM) Group within the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division (NND) invites candidates to join its Software Development team by applying for a Software Quality Assurance (QA) Test Engineer position.

 

NND is a world-class leader in the development and deployment of technology for nuclear security.  Partnering with subject matter experts, NND’s SM Group solves complex problems through software solutions including mission-management systems, data collection, materials tracking, and analytical tools. The QA Test Engineer will be embedded within a variety of software development project teams and is expected to take initiative to implement automated test tools, proactively execute testing (manual and automated), ensure quality best practices, drive quality process improvement, and advocate for the discipline of quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining a test automation framework by working with other QA staff in the SM Group to incorporate automated test tools and build/execute automated test cases to satisfy and validate business requirements
  • Ensuring appropriate software QA planning and testing is conducted (both automated and manual testing)
    • Working with the project team and stakeholders to identify, understand, and document software requirements, acceptance criteria, data flows, and expected outcomes of software being developed
    • Writing and executing comprehensive software QA test plans and scripts based on product requirements and acceptance criteria, including creating test data
    • Identifying, documenting, and prioritizing defects, and working with the team to investigate and resolve issues
  • Collaborating with project managers, other QA staff, and developers to define and continuously improve the Group’s QA methodology, both automated and manual testing approaches
  • Effectively representing ORNL and NND in both written and verbal business discussions

 

Qualifications Required

  • B.S. degree in a business discipline or a computer science field.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of progressive experience in a software testing role including the development of automated tests, functional, permissions, user interface (UI), and data layers.
  • Detail-oriented and inquisitive with the ability to affect change without being confrontational.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software development, integration of software QA using both manual and automated processes, and testing methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to rapidly absorb product knowledge and articulate technical problems to any audience.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and have a strong ability to multitask.
  • Proven track record of following through on commitments and being accountable to deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills.

 

Qualifications Desired:

Experience in an Agile environment and/or Agile lifecycle management and testing tools a plus.

  • Experience with multidisciplinary collaborative teams.
  • Experience with sensitive data.
  • Experience with safety software.
  • Experience with Web, WPF desktop, and mobile applications.

 

Special Requirement:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
