Who are we looking for?

The Enterprise Applications and Business Intelligence Group in the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) in the Business Services Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified applicants for a Technical Team Lead Developer/Analyst position.   In this position, much of your time will be devoted to the growth and management of the team and customer relationships as well as providing technical direction to the software development teams and involvement in the complete software development life cycle.


What will you be doing?

The Team Lead Developer/Analyst will develop and support Human Capital Management and other enterprise applications at ORNL and perform a technical lead role for software development teams. You will participate in both strategic and operational decisions for the team.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:

This position will provide support for ORNL’s Human Capital Management applications which cover a wide range of business functions such as: HR Master Data, Recruiting, On Boarding, Recruiting, Compensation, Learning, Performance, and Succession Planning.  ORNL’s Human Capital applications are heavily centered in SAP and include programs written in both SAP ABAP technologies as well as non-SAP web technologies.  The SAP Success Factors SaaS is used as a core product.

Primary duties for this position may include:

  • Performance management, including creation of yearly performance and development plans, as well as year-end assessments.
  • Time and attendance oversight and approval.
  • Update work process descriptions
  • Respond to and resolve issues related to internal and external audits
  • Serve as direct supervisor for members of the HCM development team
  • Work with staff and customers to develop and/or review solutions
  • Work with SAP Success Factors integrations and new module implementations
  • Development, support, and modification of software developed in SAP’s ABAP technologies including SAP GUI (Classic ABAP and ABAP Objects), Business Server Pages, and ABAP WebDynpro
  • Development, support, and modification of software developed in traditional technologies such as C# and C++
  • Development and support of migration activities to new SAP S/4HANA platform
  • Development and support of new activities to implement new modules in SAP Success Factors
  • Development, support, and modification of web applications written in frameworks such as Bootstrap, jQuery, node.js, and AngularJS
  • Analysis of software requirements and assistance in application design
  • Analysis of software code and data to answer questions about system operations
  • Implementation of unit testing and automated testing for programs and applications
  • Collaboration with Business Intelligence developers. 
  • Adherence to ORNL software quality assurance standards and ITIL best practices
  • Support of ORNL project management requirements
  • Contribute in the defining of 5 year roadmaps and directions for ITSD as it relates to software application development


Basic Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science/Information Systems or technical field
  • 15 or more years of application development experience (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Passion to review and write code
  • Proven track record of development successes
  • Willingness/desire to learn emerging programming technologies
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who is comfortable working as part of a team (in any capacity) or as an independent contributor
  • Strong customer focus and excellent written and verbal communications skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills and experience in the following areas:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams
  • Traditional and object-oriented programming
  • Model View Controller concept
  • SAP ABAP (classic and object-oriented), SAP Business Server Pages (BSPs), SAP WebDynpro and SAP WebRFC technologies
  • SAP HANA development technologies (CDS views, HANA security)
  • Human Capital Management processes – On Boarding, Recruiting, Compensation, Learning, Performance, Succession Planning and HR Master Data
  • Web services creation and consumption (SOAP and REST)
  • Traditional web development (e.g., HTML5, CSS, XML, and JavaScript)
  • Advanced web development (e.g., AngularJS, Sencha Ext JS, Node.js, Bootstrap, and jQuery)
  • Code analysis, performance, security and debugging
  • Code unit testing
  • Business workflow


Special Requirement:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
