Overview:
The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) is seeking a highly organized and technically capable SNS Beamline Operations Operability/Maintenance Coordinator to support the Instrument Support Group Lead with the focus on scheduling and execution of Operations and Maintenance activities during operating and outage time frames as required to achieve NSD Safety, Predictability, and Availability goals. This role supports safe, reliable, and efficient beamline operations through effective scheduling, risk identification, and cross-functional coordination. Responsibilities include assisting in identifying single-point failures; planning and scheduling repairs, installations, and upgrades; mitigating beamline obsolescence risks; and providing technical and administrative support during accelerator operations, maintenance periods, and scheduled outages. This position supports the SNS objective to achieve 5,000 hours of annual operation at 2 MW while enabling significantly shorter maintenance outages.
This position resides in the Instrument Support Group in the SNS Beamline Operations Section, Neutron Scattering Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Assist in planning, developing, and maintaining integrated schedules for installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities across SNS neutron beamlines, coordinating with Instrument Support, Engineering, Scientific staff, Controls, and other SNS operations organizations.

Coordinate long-term planning schedules that feed into Outage and maintenance schedules, working with stakeholders to prioritize activities related to safety, predictability, and availability.

Provide technical and administrative support during beamline operations, maintenance periods, and scheduled outages, ensuring appropriate activity planning, coordination, execution, and documentation.

Support beamline-related project planning and execution, including schedule development, cost tracking, resource coordination, and identifying/resolving constraints.

Monitor schedule progress, identify risks and variances requiring management attention, and assist with mitigation strategies and readiness reviews.

Perform data analysis to identify reliability concerns, single-point failures, and high-risk beamline components; maintain obsolescence, asset management, and risk-tracking documentation and databases.

Develop, revise, and maintain SNS Standard Operating Procedures in accordance with ORNL requirements and industry standards.

Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders through clear, timely, and professional communication.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Instrument Support Group Lead.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree in project management, engineering, or a related field with at least 5 years of related experience.

Experience in project planning, scheduling, or coordination within a technical, scientific, or industrial environment.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate activities across complex technical systems.

Experience analyzing data sets, working with spreadsheets, and interpreting technical documentation.
Special Requirements:

Experience supporting large scientific facilities or complex technical infrastructure.

Experience with asset management, obsolescence tracking, or schedule planning.

Knowledge of ORNL/SNS operations, maintenance planning, or work control processes.

Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly collaborative work style.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment.

Demonstrated ability to balance technical detail with schedule, budget, and operational constraints.

Strong documentation and follow-through skills.
