Overview:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducts cutting-edge research to deliver transformative solutions to challenges in energy and national security. We are seeking a Senior ERP Specialist with advanced expertise in SAP Business One ERP systems to join the Supply Chain Management Group within the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED). This rapidly growing program offers significant opportunities for professional growth and supports the DOE Isotope Program and other critical initiatives.

 

The Senior ERP Specialist will serve as the organization’s technical authority for SAP Business One, driving system optimization, managing complex projects, and aligning ERP functionality with strategic objectives. This position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and advanced technical expertise, providing guidance to ERP specialists and working closely with cross-functional teams to implement and enhance ERP capabilities. The ERP system supports both R&D and manufacturing operations, playing a pivotal role in advancing organizational goals and driving operational efficiency. The successful candidate will influence ERP strategy, facilitate process improvements, and ensure that ERP tools effectively support both operational and strategic needs.

 

ESED serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. It integrates the expertise of scientists, engineers, technicians, and business professionals with ORNL’s world-class capabilities to deliver groundbreaking advancements that support applications ranging from national security to life-saving medical treatments. As the national steward of enrichment technology research, development, and demonstration, ESED is recognized for its leadership in enrichment technologies. The division also manages the nation’s stable isotope inventory, continuing a legacy that began in the 1940s.

 

The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with SAP Business One and associated add-ons, advanced knowledge of ERP system development and integration (including API design and advanced reporting tools), and a strong understanding of business processes. Exceptional problem-solving skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage ERP system customizations and large-scale projects are essential. This role requires the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, mentor ERP specialists, and influence process improvements to meet evolving organizational needs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

ERP Leadership and System Optimization

  • Act as the lead technical authority for SAP Business One ERP, guiding ERP specialists and stakeholders to optimize system performance and align with strategic objectives.
  • Lead medium-to-large ERP projects, including implementations, upgrades, master data migrations, and customizations, ensuring seamless integration and operational success.
  • Leverage advanced tools such as SAP Business One SDK, SQL, SAP HANA databases, and Crystal Reports to develop custom solutions, automate workflows, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Design and implement API integrations between SAP Business One and third-party systems, ensuring seamless interoperability and enhanced system functionality.

Strategic Planning and Process Improvement

  • Analyze and refine business processes, identifying opportunities to leverage ERP capabilities for increased efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement an inventory classification system for supply chain analysis and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Translate complex business needs into actionable technical requirements, aligning ERP solutions with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Develop innovative solutions to address technical challenges and implement system enhancements that support operational excellence.

Change Management and Collaboration

  • Act as a change leader, driving ERP adoption through process improvements, user-friendly solutions, and comprehensive training programs.
  • Support other ERP specialists on best practices in system development, API integration, and advanced customizations to ensure consistent and high-quality deliverables.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, presenting technical strategies, updates, and project outcomes effectively.

System Maintenance and Licensing

  • Oversee ERP software licenses, including procurement, renewals, and compliance with support agreements to ensure uninterrupted system operation.
  • Proactively maintain and monitor ERP systems, addressing potential issues to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.

Innovation and Strategic Impact

  • Remain at the forefront of emerging ERP trends, advanced development tools, and cutting-edge coding practices, integrating innovative solutions that enhance system functionality and drive business outcomes.
  • Use the ERP system to support data-driven decision-making, strategic growth, and operational excellence, ensuring system capabilities evolve with organizational needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in a technical, business, or related field with 8–12 years of ERP-related experience, including SAP Business One implementation, development, and configuration.
  • Expertise in SAP Business One SDK, SQL, and SAP HANA databases for custom development, scripting, and advanced reporting.
  • Proven experience with API integration, including the design, implementation, and management of connections between ERP systems and third-party platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of core business processes, including sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, service, planning, costing, and financial accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of supply chain processes, including demand forecasting, replenishment strategies, and manufacturing planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage medium-to-large-scale ERP projects, aligning technical solutions with organizational goals and delivering measurable results.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Hands-on experience with the OptiProERP Add-on for SAP Business One.
  • SAP Business One Certification or equivalent ERP certifications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Crystal Reports, with the ability to create customized, dynamic reports for enhanced data analysis.
  • Extensive expertise in designing complex API integrations, including integrating ERP systems with advanced third-party tools.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with experience presenting technical strategies and project outcomes to diverse audiences.
  • A proven track record in leading enterprise-level ERP initiatives, focusing on complex customizations and managing cross-functional team collaborations.
  • Experience developing process automation solutions and driving innovation through ERP system enhancements.
