Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a leading research institution focused on addressing significant challenges in energy and security. We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Technician to join our team and support the Electrical Power Conversion Group in the Research Accelerator Division (RAD), Neutron Sciences Directorate at ORNL.
As an Electrical Technician, you will contribute to the operation, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of various electrical systems within the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) accelerator complex. This includes HVCM Systems, Magnet Power Supplies, Accelerator Beam Kickers, and High Voltage Beam Chopper systems. Your responsibilities will involve project planning, work coordination, validation testing, and equipment troubleshooting and repair. In this role, you will report to the Electrical Power Conversion Group Leader, and collaborate with ORNL and SNS staff, professional peers, external collaborators, vendors, and visitors.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide operational support for the SNS facilities, ensuring neutron production with a high availability rate.
- Plan, manage, and execute maintenance and upgrade work, utilizing efficient work control tools.
- Develop documentation and procedures for installation, training, testing, maintenance, and procurement activities.
- Procure subsystems and components.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
- Continuously acquire new skills and provide training to others.
- Adhere to ORNL's Research Code of Conduct, fostering a culture of research integrity.

Basic Qualifications:
- An associate's degree in electrical engineering or related field with 7 years of related experience. An equivalent number of years of experience and education will also be considered.
- Solid understanding of analog and digital circuits and electric circuit theory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding and practical application of power electronics, electromagnetic fields, high-power semiconductor devices, and pulsed power systems, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Proficiency in generating documents such as procedures, schedules, and reports.
- Proven ability to quickly comprehend and address complex technical problems, with expertise in working with electrical safety principles in high-risk environments.
- Knowledge of AC power distribution concepts up to medium voltage levels, along with familiarity with the National Electric Code, NFPA-70E, and NFPA-70B.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks on time and adapt to evolving needs
