Senior HPC Computer Systems Architect for Classified Systems

Overview:

The Field Intelligence Operations Division (FIOD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior High Performance Computer (HPC) Systems Architect to support critical HPC systems conducting classified research and development (R&D) for federal sponsors and ORNL researchers.  The incumbent will provide day to day support to the management of the systems and will interface with program managers, contractors, maintenance personnel, federal sponsors, and researchers. 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Planning and managing major classified R&D projects.
  • Serving as an internal technical consultant.
  • Lead hardware and software support to critical computer systems
  • Execute hardware maintenance on custom hardware solutions from a variety of vendors/sponsors.
  • Integrate new systems into the data centers.
  • Mentor new and junior staff.
  • Contribute to research proposals and reporting to major funding agencies. 

 

Basic Qualifications Required:

  • A.A. degree in related discipline with 20+ years of experience in computer systems
  • B.S degree. in computer science, computational science or a related discipline and 10+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • Previous experience in classified computing architectures
  • Previous experience with computing in the US Intelligence Community
  • US Citizenship
  • Existing TOP SECRET Clearance and with an SSBI within the last 5 years
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, writing skills, and professional image
  • Refined teaming skills and understanding of team concepts
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and follow-through when completing tasks
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and arrange activities in accomplishing objectives
  • Ability to develop and implement solutions to a variety of complex problems
  • Experience with all Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Willing to work extended hours, in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Willing to travel on company business
  • Ability to display tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with all levels of employees

 

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in intelligence community classified HPC computing data centers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong personal motivation.
  • The ability to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team. 

 

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.  Additionally, the position will also be subject to random polygraph testing.
