We are seeking a Senior Mission Support Coordinator who will focus on division-wide support coordinating, supporting, editing, and tracking division work products. This position will also provide support in revising, implementing, and reviewing divisional procedures and processes as outlined in ORNL’s Standards-Based Management System (SBMS). This position resides in the Nuclear Facility Safety Division (NFSD) in the Environment, Health, Safety and Quality (ESH&Q) Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies technical knowledge to support nuclear facility safety basis documentation editing, reviewing, and implementation is done to meet required timelines to support nuclear facility safe operations. 

  • Tracks changes to ORNL documented safety analysis reports (SARs) and technical safety requirements (TSRs) for annual and out-of-cycle updates.

  • Possess program knowledge of requirements for nuclear safety, criticality safety, and nuclear material control & accountability (NMC&A) to support content and technical edits of divisional reports, assessments, and other various documents.

  • Track preparation of documents related to internal reviews, DOE interactions, formal and informal DOE correspondences, and facility implementation dates for updated documents.

  • Assist divisional team leads create projections of future due dates, schedules, and staffing needs for products produced by divisional staff.

  • Maintains understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices relating to nuclear safety, criticality safety, and NMC&A.

  • Contributing team member on divisional program document updates.

  • Assists the NFSD Director in scheduling, tracking, and evaluating internal and external audits and surveillances of division owned management systems.

  • Support tracking, reviewing, and analyzing performance under the Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) process and lead the end-of-year report on USQs.

  • Works independently with little oversight while maintaining a high level of productivity and quality of work.

  • Provide feedback to staff and division director on work performed, reviewed, or otherwise supported to facilitate process improvement and efficiency.

  • Improve work practices and efficiencies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS in business management, organization management, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in document and organizational management is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Know and understand ORNL Management System processes.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.


Special Requirements:

  • Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Export control, no clearance: This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.

  • HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
