<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) provides state-of-the-art computational and data science infrastructure for technical and scientific professionals to accelerate scientific discovery and engineering advances across a broadrange of disciplines. As an important part of the broader High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, the division also hosts the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), a Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility.

<span style="border:none windowtext 1.0pt; font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The Application Development and User Access Group<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif"> develops and maintains large software applications and tools used by the staff and users of the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) computational ecosystem.

 

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Purpose

 

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">We are seeking to add an experience Software Engineer to our team, <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">to write internal software applications to support the world-class supercomputers maintained by the division.

 

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Major Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Design, code, test, and document web-based services and APIs in multiple languages (e.g. Ruby, Go, Python, JavaScript) that support the mission of the NCCS and its end-users.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Interact with NCCS staff and managers to gather custom software requirements and new feature requests.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Contribute to architectural decisions related to new continuous integration features and techniques.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Participate in code reviews with the group's development team.

 

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Basic Qualifications

 

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">A Bachelor’s degree Computer Science/Engineering or in a STEM field with a computing focus.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a software engineering/development role.

 

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Preferred Qualifications

 

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">8+ years of experience working in a software engineering/development role.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience writing software applications in at least one of the following programming languages: Ruby, Python, Go, and/or JavaScript.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience with web application development using one or more open-source frameworks (e.g. Rails, Vue.js).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience with continuous integration technologies (e.g. GitLab CI/CD Pipelines, GitLab Runner).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience using SQL database technologies (e.g. MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL) to manage large datasets (hundreds of GB; billions of records).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">An online portfolio of open-source software contributions (e.g. GitHub, BitBucket).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience leading software development projects.

 

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Special Requirement:

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
