Overview: 

We're hiring a Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Analyst to focus on running and improving our SQA program through proactively deploying laboratory policies, SQA procedures and SQA methodology to our line organizations to meet customers' requirements and achieve reliable and effective results in supporting our customers' mission. This position resides in the Software Engineering group in the Application Development division of the Information Technology Services Directorate (ITSD), at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

Based on Department of Energy (DoE) requirements and other industry standards, ORNL uses a graded SQA approach. ORNL operations and science organizations need assistance with resolving classification of their software and the corresponding grading which should be applied. Organizations are also routinely assessed to determine adherence to SQA policies.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:   

  • Become one of ORNL's SMEs for SQA.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Division to implement, run, and improve ORNL’s SQA program.
  • Become the go-to SQA contact for ITSD
  • Enhance our SQA program through:
    • Review and interpretation of sponsor requirements and relevant standards.
    • Collaborating with other laboratories and institutions to interpret customer requirements and standardize their institutional implementation.
    • Benchmarking best practice SQA programs as inputs for ORNL program improvement.
    • Lead or participate in assessments to ensure ORNL organizations are adhering to SQA requirements as documented in ORNL’s Standards-Based Management System (SBMS).
  • Provide training opportunities so that software owners, development/acquisition teams, and organization-level (directorate, division, etc.) SQA Points of Contact (POC’s) are appropriately trained to perform required SQA tasks and responsibilities.
  • Provide assistance to software owners and their organizations in determining the appropriate software quality requirements for each software application, using a graded approach.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • A BS in computer science, engineering, business, or a related field of study and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of proven experience working as part of a software development team. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience designing and/or implementing Software Development Life Cycles (SDLCs).
  • Solid understanding of Quality Standards like NQA-1, ISO 9001, or other quality concepts.
  • A strong customer focus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate quality requirements with staff not familiar with information technology and/or SQA.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Software development and/or computer systems analysis experience.
  • Working knowledge of DOE Order 414.1, Quality Assurance.
