Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced Staff Nurse who will focus on Occupational Health programs. This position resides in the Health Services Division (HSD), Environment, Safety, Health & Quality Directorate  at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Occupational Health duties
    • Assist with Fitness for Duty evaluations
    • Workers Compensation cases
    • Return to work evaluations
    • Perform employee physicals, screening, and evaluation, and provide care under the supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner, or physicans assistant
  • Nursing duties/care
    • Assist with emergency care
    • Perform vaccinations, EKGs, vital signs, venipunctiure, blood draws, IV/INT starts, medication administration, and emergency care to employees in/when necessary, as prescribed by a physician, nurse practioner, or physicians assistant            
  • Support Pandemic medical requirements
    • Communicates with employees who have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19
    • Assist with Case Management of positive COVID-19 employees
  • Other duties supporting HSD needs at the discretion of the Division Director or HSD Group Leader, based on education, training, and experience; additional duties may be at alternate ORNL site

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, or an equivalent combination of education and significant years of relevant nursing experience
  • License to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • 5 years experience as a registered nurse

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in DOE associated Occupational Health Clnic strongly desired
  • Experience and certification as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist (COHNS) is desirable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced clinical environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

 

Special Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
