Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Staff Nurse who will focus on Occupational Health programs. This position resides in the Health Services Division (HSD), Environment, Safety, Health & Quality Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Occupational and Environmental Medicine Duties
- Assist with Fitness for Duty evaluations
- Workers Compensation cases
- Return to work evaluations
- Perform employee physicals, screening, and evaluation, and provide care under the supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant
- Foreign Travel Consultations
Nursing Duties/Care
- Assist with emergency care and other procedures as needed
- Perform vaccinations, EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture, IV/INT starts, medication administration, first aid care, wound care, staple/suture removal, ear irrigations, decontamination of radioactive contaminated employees and emergency care to employees as prescribed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant
- Re-evaluations of work restrictions
Other duties and additional training in support of HSD requirements at the direction of the ORNL Medical Director, HSD Group Leader, and Nursing Team Lead. Additionally, some duties will be performed at alternate ORNL site.
Basic Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree with at least 5 years of nursing experience.
- License to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS) basic course, Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). Note: these training requirements must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) within two years of the date of hire.
- Ability to travel.
- Ability to obtain Q-level security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in DOE associated Occupational Health Clinic strongly desired.
- ICU experience / emergency department experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced clinical environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

- Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
