Overview: 

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks to hire a Staff Psychologist for the Health Services Division in theEnvironment, Safety, Health & Quality Directorate. The successful candidate will provide psychological evaluation and consultation services in an occupational health clinic. ORNL is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Its diverse capabilities span a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct psychological evaluation of security and safety-senstive employees
  • Evaluate and consult within a multidisiciplinary occupational health clinic
  • Function as subject matter expert for behavioral and psychological matters for ORNL
  • Provide back up psychologist coverage as needed in addition to regular 20% to 40% part-time duties

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Clinical Psychology and an internship from an APA-approved program as well as a current unrestricted license in Tennessee as a Psychologist (Health Services Provider)
  • A minimum of 8 years of Licensed professional experience including expertise in assessment psychology
  • Professional experience in conducting psychological fitness for duty evaluations and consulting in a corporate and/or governmental agency setting
  • An equivalent combination of experience may be considered
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” level clearance
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in high-stakes personnel psychological evaluation and familairty with applicable Federal regulations
  • Experience in substance abuse evaluation
  • Ability to contribute as subject matter expert on behavioral and psychological matters to include methodology, quanitiative analyses, and familiarity with current scholarly literature 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

 

Special Requirements:

  • Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
