Overview and Purpose: 

We are seeking a statistician or biostatistician for health outcomes modeling in the Biostatistics and Multiscale Modeling Group in Advanced Computing in Health Sciences Section of the Computational Science and Engineering Division (CSED).  The candidate will work in a collaborative research and development environment focusing on statistical modeling, statistical analysis, and exploratory data analysis in population health and precision medicine settings. We are specifically seeking a candidate with solid experience with frequentist and Bayesian modeling experience in R and/or python. The position requires domain expertise in health outcomes an electronic medical records.

 

In this role you will be a technical professional within the Biostatistics and Multiscale Systems (BSMS) Group of the Advanced Computing in Health Sciences Section (ACH) in CSED. The ACH delivers scalable and computational solutions to biomedical and healthcare delivery challenges. The BSMS Group focuses on conducting research in computational sciences in the context of biomedical sciences in support of the nation’s leading health initiatives.

 

As a technical professional, you will have the opportunity to support computational research collaborations with scientists within the group as well as with external partners which may include other national laboratories, academia, or medical centers.

 

You will engage in ground breaking research projects on a wide range of significant problems with the fastest computing platforms in the world. This position requires novel thinking, teamwork, and discovery in finding new approaches for analyzing massive and complex data, collaborating with worldwide experts, and supporting publications with groundbreaking results.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support research projects in statistics and machine learning with applications to health sciences at the direction of principal investigators or delegated research scientists
  • Perform statistical analyses in a variety of applications including health outcomes, population science, precision medicine, and national security
  • Work on collaborative projects within ORNL and with external collaborators
  • Contribute to papers and conferences within the research group

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or MS and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing statistical analysis in a professional environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in trajectory data, such as longitudinal data analysis, functional data analysis, or related methodology
  • Experience with both Bayesian and frequentist modeling
  • Relevant publication history
  • Experience in software development and high-performance computing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
