Purpose:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a Strategic Planning Professional to support laboratory planning activities in the Office of Strategic Planning and Performance Management (SPPM). In this position, you will report to the Director of Institutional Strategic Planning (ISP) within the Office of the Laboratory Director. The ISP Office as a team supports the Laboratory Director’s Office in strategic planning, discretionary resource allocation, and organizational performance management. This Strategic Planning Specialist will work with the full ISPO team to deliver major planning and performance management objectives and key results, including notably the full life cycle of strategic and business planning activities, and other planning topics as may be required by the ORNL Laboratory Director’s Office.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supports the day-to-day activities of laboratory strategic planning, business planning, including development of planning documents, maintaining stewardship of planning processes
- Collaborate with the ISP Director in support of the senior executives at the Laboratory in developing long-range science and operational strategic plans and near-term business plans for the Laboratory, including:
- The Annual Laboratory Agenda
- Directorate Strategic Plans
- Science & Technology Initiative Plans Campus Strategic Plans
- Ensure the logic, accuracy, and appropriate scope of fact-bases with which to inform strategic analyses
- Interact with senior leaders in the organization and assist in the execution of various special projects, which have the potential to significantly impact the organization
- Help to synthesize results of quantitative and qualitative analyses into key trends, implications, and/or recommendations
- Develop content that will support/be included in executive level presentations and reports to communicate and achieve buy-in for strategic recommendations
- Work as an effective ISPO team member, and as such, be accountable as a team for major objectives and key results .
- Review reports from industry leaders, DOE, National Academies, etc. and prepare communications for senior laboratory executives.

Basic Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in business, engineering or science with 7 – 10 years of related field experience in a major organization is required.
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to learn new information quickly and to effectively distill associated key element or priorities
- The ability to understand, follow, and implement complex instructions
- Strong organizational skills, including the flexibility to simultaneously handle several assignments and to synthesize input from diverse fields
- The ability to manage projects from concept to completion; and excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a DOE laboratory or other science and technology R&D organization.

Experience in development of scientific or business strategies.
