The Safety, Engineering, and Support (SES) Section of the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division (NNFD), within the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED), is seeking a Technical Support Services (TSS) Group Leader (GL).  This position is responsible for effectively and consistently supporting the directorate with expertise in the following areas: training, quality, document control/records, and other technical support.  The TSS GL provides leadership to the group and coaches group members to be knowledgeable and become more comfortable with the Safe Conduct of Research (SCoR) principles and NNFD’s implementation of Operational Excellence.  The TSS GL is expected to support each facility and research group in a consistent manner to offer solutions to concerns/issues as they arise and engage with each facility so that trust of the group is adopted amongst the division/directorate. 


Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Guide training staff to ensure training program is compliant with DOE Order 426.2, the training needs are properly evaluated and tailored to the job being performed.
  • Supervise quality and technical staff to ensure issues are properly identified and addressed.  Evaluate suppliers for NQA-1 requirements and perform effectiveness reviews.
  • Provide oversight to document control and procedure development staff who consistently implement the procedure and document control process while actively involving facility personnel. Ensure DOE/SBMS requirements are clearly defined within facility and division level procedures.
  • Provide oversight of assigned Quality Assurance (QA) staff to ensure requirements of NQA-1 are properly implemented
  • Review, and provide feedback on safety-basis documents, as necessary
  • Provide oversight to the implementation of the Conduct of Operations program and support improvement efforts
  • Work closely with facility and operations managers to ensure they are adequately supported in training, document control/records and quality.
  • Work closely with NNFD engineers and researchers in support of current and future projects within each facility.
  • Work closely with and support other NNFD group leaders and section heads in meeting the needs of the division.


Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. with 8 years relevant experience (or equivalent experience for higher degrees). Degree must be in a technical field (e.g., engineering, chemistry, etc.) or a related subject area
  • 4 years of experience in a nuclear environment
  • Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading technical teams
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people having a wide range of technical and scientific backgrounds


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the EDRM system.
  • Strong understanding and awareness of the Safety Analysis Report and Technical Safety Requirements for each facility.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Screening for Work Acceptance in Non-Reactor Nuclear Facilities (SWAN) system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of process improvement strategies.
