Summary:

The Nuclear and Extreme Environments Measurements (NEEM) Group within the Fuel Development Section (FDS), Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division (NEFCD), Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), seeks applicants for a technician position with emphasis in harsh environment experiment design and demonstration.

The primary function of this open position is to assist research staff with the development and realization of harsh environment experiments through electrical and mechanical support. This includes selection of appropriate instrumentation and data acquisition system, trouble shouting complex electrical or mechanical systems, acquiring and visualizing data.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and trouble shoot electrical systems and experiments for pre and post irraditions
  • Read and/or program Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Work with CAD engineers and Manufacturing engineers to procure and machine custom parts

 

Qualifications Required:

  • AS in engineering, physics, or related fields and 5 years experience

 

Qualifications Desired:

  • Candidates must have a technical AS degree in mechanical or eletronics engineering and five years or more of experience in instrumentation, controls, and electronical system
  • The candidate must have experience using and programming PLC’s and a wide variety of instrumentation including (but not limited to) pressure, flow, and temperature sensors.
  • The candidate must be detail oriented and work well in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, presentation, and writing skills are required to enable effective interaction with technical peers, program managers, and sponsors

HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
