US ITER Systems Engineer

Purpose:

Responsible for the application of Systems Engineering supporting the design, fabrication, testing/acceptance and delivery of systems, structures and components produced by US ITER for the ITER project. Position involves work with other engineers and managers in an engineering and manufacturing environment.

 

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Work with design teams in integrating strong system engineering practices in the design evolution of:

    • Requirements development and management

    • Configuration management/change control

    • Interface and configuration model management

    • Deliverables planning and management

  • Review of engineering and manufacturing deliverables (documents, drawings, etc.), procedures, etc.

  • Support development and documentation of ITER engineering plans, procedures, deliverables, processes and workflows

  • Coordinate preparations for readiness/design reviews

  • Working in accordance with IO Agreement (Procurement Arrangement)

  • Working as US ITER team member with the ITER organization and international partners

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a BS in Systems, or Mechanical (or related) Engineering and 7+ years of relevant experience

  • Requires solid understanding of systems engineering including requirements management, configuration management, interface control, specification development, and procedure development

  • Experience on large scale, integrated engineering projects throughout the design and manufacturing lifecycle

  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter, able to work independently and in a team environment

  • Must work well with diverse spectrum of personnel (people/soft skillset)

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate with members of the organization at all levels and with suppliers

  • Must have effective problem solving, time management, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related technical field with 5+ years of experience in design, construction and operation of hardware and/or systems.

  • INCOSE certification as a Professional Systems Engineer or willingness to pursue SE Certification is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of US ITER and IO procedures is highly desirable

  • Familiarity or experience with fusion energy technology, large electromechanical devices and/or software

    development

 

Work Direction and Interfaces:

Reports to the U.S. ITER Systems Engineering Manager, works in a matrixed position to various design teams. Must be capable of representing the U.S. ITER WBS activities to the U.S. ITER project office, ITER Organization, independent and DOE review groups, and professional organizations.

 

Authority / Approval Levels:

The engineer shall be capable of working with the following: US ITER WBS groups, US ITER procurement, US ITER Quality Assurance, and ITER International Organization members. Reports to the U.S. ITER Systems Engineering Manager for technical direction.

 

Measures of Effectiveness:

  • Supported groups demonstrate strong systems engineering practices

  • Improvements are realized in the US ITER Systems Engineering program

  • Increased stability in the US ITER design basis

  • Positive relationships and teamwork

  • Successfully provides the U.S. ITER Project Office with help, guidance and information towards establishing divisional policy and allocation of divisional resources.
